BLUE CANYON INTERACTIVE HOLE BY HOLE
Hole
1
395 YARDS, 362 METERS PAR 4
A well designed starting hole. The new Championship
tee provides an excellent view of the hole and the downhill
tee shot must be well placed to avoid expansive bunkers
on the left side of the fairways. The second shot is
uphill to a well-bunkered green and demands an exact
shot to ensure par. The green is challenge in
itself, with players aiming to make their putts from |
Hole
2
204 YARDS, 186 METERS, PAR 3
The first of four demanding par 3 holes. From the tee
the entire tee all the obstacles are clearly in view.
The green is quite large but players are often short
of the putting surface on their first shot. A
well-played shot will provide a good birdie opportunity.

uphill to a well-bunkered green and demands an exact

with players aiming to make their putts from the right
side of the hole. the right side of the hole.
|
Hole
3
449 YARDS, 410 METERS,PAR 4
The longest par 4 on the course and perhaps the most
difficult. The fairway is narrow, tree lined and uphill
all the way, leaving no margin for an errant tee shot.
A successful drive presents the player with the problem
of negotiating his second shot around the largest (and
oldest) Calabash tree on the golf course. Checking the
pin position is critical to scoring potential due to
the length of the green.
|
Hole
4
408 YARDS, 373 METERS, PAR 4
The new
Championship tee demands a testing drive that must carry
the mounds to the top of the hill in order to allow
visibility of the green for the second shot. A good
drive will give the player a short iron to the green
and the longer hitters will favour the right side of
the fairway. The green is narrow and drops off sharply
- getting the ball up and down from the back is difficult. |
Hole
5
398 YARDS, 364 METERS, PAR 4
A classic example of the punishing nature of the surrounding
Rubber tree plantation where a wayward shot will be
costly. The fairway slopes towards a deep hollow on
the right, so a right to left shot is ideal. Large bunkers
guard the left and right front of the green, which drops
away to the back. |
Hole
6
556 YARDS, 508 METERS, PAR 5
The first par 5 on the course. From the tee a player
has to negotiate the Coconut trees guarding the left
side of the fairway and a single Flame tree in the center.
A water hazard lurks for the long hitter so a driver
is rarely the club used from the tee and reaching the
green in two is not easy. Playing your second shot into
the landing area short of the bunkers will allow an
easy pitch for a safer birdie opportunity.
|
Hole
7
205 YARDS, 187 METERS, PAR 3
There is no room for error at this par 3. An excellent
test of golfing skills, the natural setting of the 7th
and the added design features require proper club selection
from the tee and a confident swing to get the ball on
the green. One of toughest greens on the course, putting
will test the nerves of any player.
|
Hole
8
402 YARDS, 368 METERS, PAR 4
The new Championship tee adds more length to bring the
fairway bunkers into play. A well placed tee shot favoring
the right side will give the player a bird's eye view
of the well-guarded green. A properly executed shot
from here should yield another good birdie opportunity. |
Hole
9
561 YARDS, 512 METERS, PAR 5
Making par on this superior 'half-way' hole should be
relatively easy for the professionals. Problems can
be encountered on the tee shot with three bunkers lurking
on the right side of the fairway. A long tee shot will
tempt a player to try and reach the green in two. This
challenge requires a very precise second shot over the
water hazard towards the clubhouse into a very undulating
green.
|
Hole
10
392 YARDS
358 METERS PAR 4
From the tee you get a
clear picture of the hole and a breathtaking panoramic
view of Phang Nga Bay that can make event the most attentive
player lose concentration. A relatively easy hole when
played down the right side of the fairway with a normal
drive, leaving a short iron second. Several bunkers
on the left side of the fairway and surrounding the
green are you only contentions. |
Hole
11
544 YARDS, 498 METERS, PAR 5
The 'Blue Monster'. This is one of the longest holes
on the course and usually requires three good shots
to reach the green. Any player going for the green in
two thoughts will need to carry the stream, which crosses
the fairway. The ideal tee shot is down the right. This
will avoid the fairway bunkers and gives a view of the
long and narrow green, which is well guarded by bunkers
and water.
|
Hole
12
442 YARDS, 404 METERS, PAR 4
The new Championship tee added for this year's tournament
means that the second shot to the scenic green, over
a creek protecting the front and with water down the
right, can be anything from a 4-iron
to a 3-wood. A daunting shot even for these top players. |
Hole
13
394 YARDS, 360 METERS
The 13th at Blue Canyon strikes fear into the hearts
of all levels of golfers. Our signature holes, aptly
named 'The Canyon', and is the first of two holes which
players will go home talking about. It is not long but
the tee shot is still the key. It must be struck accurately
into the landing area to give a comfortable second shot.
Recovery from an overhit shot to the shallow green is
very difficult.
|
Hole
14
169 YARDS, 155 METERS
Rightly named 'The Island', the 14th is truly a natural
island green, perhaps one of the only ones in the world.
Small consolation for the golf balls that will be lost
in the surrounding lagoon. There is no room for tee
shot error - you must have the right club and confidence
in your swing at this dramatic hole. |
Hole
15
586 YARDS, 535 METERS, PAR 5
A double dogleg, requiring a good tee shot to clear
the first water hazard. The drive should be played to
the left center of the fairway to avoid 'out-of bounds'
on the right and allowing a better view of the hole
for the second shot landing area. A second water feature
confronts the player in the form of a creek crossing
the fairway. The elongated green is guarded on the left
by a large wood-faced bunker.
|
Hole
16
360 YARDS, 330 METERS, PAR 4
The second hole designed to allow the player time to
catch his breath before tackling the difficult 17th
and 18th. A reasonable drive and a short to medium iron
into the smallest green on the course provide the player
with a much needed birdie opportunity. |
Hole
17
221 YARDS, 202 METERS, PAR 3
The longest and arguably the most difficult short hole
on the course, described by Fred Couples as "one of
the best par-3s anywhere in the world." The tee shot
must carry the water to a long, L-shaped green that
slopes gently from front to back. The size of the green
and the pin placement can make this a supreme test of
putting and the 17th may be the hole where the Classic
is won or lost.
|
Hole
18
413 YARDS, 378 METERS, PAR 4
The finish at Blue Canyon runs 413 yards from the back
tee to the green, fronted all the way by water on the
right side of the fairway. It demands an accurate drive
into the narrow landing area. The second is played directly
towards the backdrop of the clubhouse into a difficult
green. Any player who misses the green may see his ball
end up in the creek or thick rough and will have a hard
task-making par. |
